Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-05-28
Plain English first, lawyer language second. By using 1776 Claims you're agreeing to the following.
1. What we are
1776 Claims is a website that helps you organize your story, papers, damages, and timeline for the Anti-Weaponization Fund. We are not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice. We are not affiliated with the Department of Justice, the Treasury, the Anti-Weaponization Fund commission, or any government agency.
2. No attorney–client relationship
Nothing on this site creates an attorney–client relationship between you and us, or between you and any lawyer we mention. If you want legal advice, hire a licensed attorney. We recommend the hourly model. We explain the math on our lawyer fee page.
3. AI helpers
Our AI helpers organize information. They are not lawyers and cannot give legal advice. Every output is flagged "a real lawyer needs to look at this." We have rules built in that block payout promises and lawyer impersonation, but you should still verify everything with your own lawyer.
4. No outcome promises
We do not guarantee that you qualify for the fund. We do not guarantee any payout amount. We do not guarantee that the fund will pay out at all. We do not guarantee that your file will be approved.
5. Your data
You own your data. We store it privately. You can download or delete it any time from your settings page. We do not sell your data. We do not use your uploaded documents to train AI models. We keep audit logs of who opened what, and when.
6. Donations
Donations are gifts. They are not tax-deductible (unless and until we set up a 501(c)(3), which we'll disclose here). Donations do not buy legal services, do not change your claim's outcome, and do not create any special access. Refunds are available within 30 days — email support@1776.claims.
7. Acceptable use
Don't break the law on our platform. Don't upload someone else's private documents without their consent. Don't try to break the security. Don't use the AI to harass people. Don't pretend to be someone else. We can suspend or delete accounts that abuse the platform.
8. Account security
You're responsible for the security of your account. Use a strong password. Don't share your login. If you think someone has access to your account, email us right away and we'll lock it.
9. We may change things
We may update the website, the features, and these terms. We'll tell you about material changes by email. If you don't like the changes, you can delete your account and your data goes with it.
10. We can stop the service
We can shut down the website, take down features, or close accounts when we have to. We'll give you notice and a chance to export your data when we can.
11. As-is, no warranties
The site is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee uptime, accuracy, or that the AI will always be right. We do our best. Your file deserves a human lawyer's review before anything is submitted.
12. Limit of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any indirect, consequential, or special damages arising from your use of the site. If you can prove we owe you something, our total liability is capped at the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months (which is usually $0 — the site is free).
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of [STATE_PLACEHOLDER]. Disputes go through mandatory mediation before any court process. If a court does get involved, exclusive jurisdiction is in the state and federal courts of [COUNTY_PLACEHOLDER], [STATE_PLACEHOLDER].
14. Contact

Plain-English summary: 1776 Claims helps you organize. We're not your lawyer. We don't promise payouts. Donations are gifts, not purchases. We don't sell your data. You can leave anytime. Be a good neighbor and don't break the law on our platform.
